did you learn to play a musical instrument when you were growing up?

I did. My best friend, Aimee Howlett, in 5th grade (and beyond) played and convinced me that it was the way to go. So I saved some money and pleaded with my parents, and was able to purchase (for about $80) a guitar, a guitar case, capo, thumbpick, extra strings, and a month of "Instant Guitar" lessons on State Street. I took lessons for a little over a year, and I wish I had a guitar that I could play today (I still have my "Instant Guitar" music book).
I loved playing the guitar! There was a Laurel in our Ward when I was a Beehive; her name was (I think) Ellie Farris. She played the guitar so well! I'm sure it was in some kind of folksy/hippie artistic way, but I was very impressed with her talent. And Aimee was no slouch with the guitar, either...if I remember correctly, she eventually purchased a 12-string guitar (around 7th grade).

Some of my favorite songs that I learned to play include: "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and "Yellow Submarine." If there was an "Instant Guitar" place nearby, I'd be taking lessons again!

my guitar looked something like this...
